Passing of Epictetus, 135 AD

July 15

Honoring the soul freed from chains, who taught that fortune binds only bodies, not spirits.

He wore no crown.
He held no sword.
Yet Epictetus reigned within himself,
as kings never could.

He taught that no chain could shackle the soul.
That no whip could cut the will.
That freedom is chosen, not given.

Today, cast off one chain of your own making.
A fear, a craving, a lie.
Break it quietly, and walk freer.

Say: “The body may fall.”
Say: “The soul endures.”
The last breath is not defeat.
It is the crown of the free.
